Dr Baret has had a distinguished career working in all areas of dentistry, but focusing on the related fields of Early Growth and Development of the Face and Upper Airway, Dentofacial Orthopaedics and Orthodontics, Sleep Disordered Breathing and Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD).
In 1981, he was a foundation member of the Australian Society for Occlusal Studies. During the following years, while treating many TMD patients and Orthodontic patients, he recognised the need for Orofacial Orthopaedic treatment in the treatment of TMD and Occlusal disorders, so in 1985, Dr Baret and three of his colleagues founded the Australasian Association of Orofacial Orthopaedics. This group of advanced dentists works to educate dentists to help the facial structure develop to its greatest potential, improving the structure and function of the upper airway, as well as the jaws, TMJs and oral and facial muscles.
Since then, he has been a foundation member of the Australian Chapter of the American Equilibration Society, a member of the International Association for Orthodontics, and a foundation member of the Australian Chapter of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. Dr Baret is an active member of the Australian Sleep Association, the Sleep Health Foundation, the Australian Association of Orofacial Myology, and a long term member and educator for the Australasian Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
He has served the profession and the community by serving on the council of the Australian Dental Association, teaching Doctors, Dentists and Chiropractors, and helping to expand the post-graduate education of his dental colleagues.
Outside his professional career, Dr Baret spent much of his life associated with Bronte Beach and as an active member of Bronte Surf Lifesaving Club, where he served as a Patrol Captain of the volunteer surf lifesavers for ten years. During that time he also competed for his club as a swimmer and Surf Boat rower at surf carnivals, and state and national championships around Australia.
His professional and educational work was recognised by the American Biographical Institute who listed him in the International Directory of Distinguished Leadership, and later he was listed in the International Who’s Who in Medicine, by the International Biographical Centre (Cambridge, England).
In 2018, Dr Baret earned his Post Grad Diploma in Clinical Orthodontics. He had achieved, the highest grades in this course, and was Dux of the course. Then, in 2020, he completed the Post Graduate Diploma course in Dental Sleep Medicine, again becoming Dux of the course
Dr Baret is continuing his advanced education, particularly in the areas of TMD, Dental Sleep Medicine and Early growth and Development of the face and upper airway.
